LEVEL PLAYING FIELD WEEKS OF ACTION 2014

20 March 2014

Gillingham FC are proud to support Level Playing Field's Weeks of Action in 2014

Gillingham Football Club is pleased to support the 2014 Level Playing Field (LPF) Weeks of Action 2014.

It provides us with a real opportunity to show what we have achieved for our disabled supporters, both Home and Away, and the wider disabled community.

LPF is a campaigning and advisory organisation working on the behalf of all disabled supporters.

They work to share good practice, raise awareness and promotes improved access to sports stadiums for disabled fans and disabled people who aspire to attend live sporting events.

LPF uses the unique voice of sport to improve access and inclusion for disabled people across a wider society by working alongside sports bodies and government.

To raise awareness and support the weeks of action, Gillingham Football Club asked Gills supporter James Barnes, who is partially sighted, to give us his view on being a Gills fan and what clubs are doing well and where improvements could be made.

We also ran a competition with two local SEN Schools, Abbey Court School and Danecourt School, to offer two lucky pupils the opportunity to be Matchday Mascots at our next home game against Crewe Alexandra FC.

The lucky winners will be treated to a tour of MEMS Priestfield Stadium before the game, then have the honour of leading the team on to the pitch before sitting back to enjoy the match with their families.

Tickets were also given to both schools for additional pupils to attend the fixture along with their parents. We also gave tickets to GFC SENtaurs, our disability teams.

LPF offers advice to clubs, sporting bodies and individuals. They run a yearly award scheme recognising people that have made a difference to disabled supporters.

They also provide a professional and cost effective Access Audit programme. The audits are specifically written for sports stadia, venues and arenas.

Level Playing Field would like to thank Gillingham Football Club for supporting this annual initiative.

The LPF Weeks of Action 2014 run from the15th to the 30th March.
