GILLS LADIES v ASHFORD PREVIEW
By Chris Dicketts
Gills Ladies will make their third attempt to take on Ashford Ladies in the Kent Cup this weekend, after bad weather hampered their efforts in recent weeks.
The Quarter final should have been played three weeks ago, but frozen pitches and heavy rain put pay to that, however with this weekend's weather looking more promising the signs are looking good for the ladies.
Whilst not playing well in recent weeks they have shown the qualities that a winning side need by still comfortably beating promotion rivals Enfield and MK Dons.
Last time they played in the Kent Cup, it was a bit of a walk in the park as they overcome local rivals Castle Colts 13-0 and they will be expected to beat Ashford by a similar score line this weekend.
Current Form
Last time the Gills played there was a rare week when star strikers Ashlee Hincks and Natalie Crinean scored once each and were overshadowed.
The player that managed this remarkable feat was Deanna Cooper who scored twice and then promptly headed off to join up with the England Under 17 squad, for the week.
Also on the score sheet for the first time this season was midfielder Laura East and Club Captain Becky Lyon.
Team News
Manager Ian Varley has almost a fully fit squad to choose from this weekend with Danni Farmer and Vicky Ashton-Jones fully recovered from knocks.
The only dilemma for the manager will be in the midfield where the manager has an embarrassment of riches.
One player who will miss out through injury is fringe first team striker Charlotte Abbott, who suffered a badly bruised foot whilst playing for the Reserves in their 4-0 League Cup win three weeks ago.
The manager might also be tempted to make a few changes and rest a few players and Rachel Ahern who has impressed when called upon could be in line for a start.
Squad
Katie Duffy, Whitney Judd, Kelly Herrett, Les Kay, Becky Lyon, Deanna Cooper, Laura East, Danni Farmer, Ashlee Hincks, Vicky Ashton-Jones, Natalie Crinean, Rachel Ahern, Amy Russ, Jodie Mugford, Jade Johnson, Charlotte Abbott, Olivia McGregor and Ruth Jackson
