Gillingham finish their Reserve fixtures with a heavy defeat at the hands of League Champions Reading at krbs Priestfield Stadium

With the senior team in action on Saturday just two first team players were included for the Reserves final outing of the season. Gary Mulligan and Tom Wynter were joined by trialists Kieron Thorp from Crystal Palace, Fabrice Kasiama and Fangandel Moke of Wolves, Mustapha Dumbaya of Potters Bar Town and Blackpool's Jake Hobbs.

The visitors took the lead just three minutes after kick-off, Jake Taylor playing in Abdulai Baggie on the left of goal who cut back to present Andrew White with an easy finish from close range.

After that early wake up call Gillingham settled into the match but were given another warning on 17 minutes when right winger Jahson Downes latched on to a neat pass and flashed a stunning effort wide of the far post from fully 25 yards.

The Gills best chance of the half came on the half hour when Gary Mulligan flicked on for Rimmel Daniel who attempted to lob keeper Andersen but his effort was too strong and sailed harmlessly over the bar

Shortly after the Royals doubled their lead in spectacular fashion, Tom Wynter conceded a foul on the edge of the box and Abdulai Baggie stepped up to fire the resulting free-kick into the top corner.

In the closing stages of the half the home side went close again as Rimmel Daniel crossed for Fungandel Moke but the centre-half's header was over the crossbar.

At half time Mark Stimson introduced first year apprentice Tom Murphy for Gary Mulligan while Daniel and Kasiama switched roles down the left. The change gave the home side a better shape and they began the second half with far more purpose and direction about their play.

Half chances fell to Kasiama, whose shot on the turn drifted over the bar from the left edge of the area, and substitute Murphy who did well to find room to shoot but fired wide of the far post.

Then against the run of play Reading added a third. Baggie, a constant thorn in the Gills side, crossed from the right, sub Walcott and Andrew White both saw shots blocked before Oliver Kelly emerged from the melee to blast into the roof of the net from close range.

Ten minutes from time Jacob Walcott netted the Royals fouth with a fine solo effort that saw him collect the ball with his back to goal before blasting into the far corner beyond the flailing Thorp.
